Premise

Flinch Gordon is a 21 st century parody of the original Flash Gordon series, based on the idea that the show was never cancelled.

Story

The story revolves around a typical Flinch Adventure, his girl friend “Dale Harden”, has been kidnapped by Flinch's arch nemesis “Ping the Perilous”.   Flinch races to the rescue and is immediately caught in one of Pings maniacal traps.

The main narrative in the piece lies in the dialogue between Ping and Flinch.   Ping realising that he's trapped in an overly repetitive show, tries to convince Flinch that they should just give up and become friends.   Flinch however refuses to trust Ping, this results in Ping being forced to go through the motions of their typical adventures, Ping captures Flinch, Flinch is imprisoned with no hope of escape and Flinch escapes and saves the day.

Background

The Amazing Adventures of Flinch Gordon was born out of a much older idea, a story where the main character's biggest hero is a television character named “Flinch Gordon”.   The story was “The Amazing Adventures of Jeremy and Bob”, which was about a recently disabled boy coming to terms with his disability but before doing so goes off on fantastic imaginary adventures with his dog “Bob”.

“Jeremy and Bob” at the time was overly ambitious and didn't last long in pre-production before being postponed indefinitely.   After a few years with the story still on my mind and about to start my final year in university I decided to think about resurrecting the idea, however this time round I decided to open the script on the television show “Flinch Gordon”.

Writing the Flinch Gordon introduction become an extremely fun experience, more and more of my childhood began to creep into the script and soon I was drawing on all my interests for inspiration and mockery, Jeremy and Bob slipped out of mind the “The Amazing Adventures of Flinch Gordon” was Born.
